This year at the fair we will also be featuring limited, signed copies of Roger Steffens newest photo book, Jamaica.
This impressive volume of slide photos spanning 40+ years of visiting Jamaica was released earlier this year by his daughter Kate Steffens inspired project, The Family Acid. We were fortunate to meet Kate through our support of her project and her friendship with Chris Veltri of Groove Merchant SF. We're proud to announce that we will be the only table at SFABF to offer this hardcover edition, but also want to announce that our close friends at These Days LA will be releasing a new zine at the fair of photos taken by Roger in San Francisco.
Be sure to visit their table as well and pick up a copy of what promises to be an equally fantastic collection of images.
For those unfamiliar with the project here's a little background:
The Family Acid is Roger, Mary, Kate and Devon Steffens. They are based in Los Angeles.
Roger Steffens is a photographer, archivist, author, actor, editor, DJ and lecturer. He has been taking photographs since the early 1960s, documenting his unorthodox life and experiences. Recently his children, Devon and Kate, began scanning his slides and negatives and posting them to Instagram. The majority of these photographs haven't been seen by anyone outside of the family until now. There are approximately 40,000 Kodachrome slides and hundreds of thousands of black and white and color negatives. In early 2015, The Family Acid released their first book.
Kate Steffens is an editor, digital archivist, writer and artist. She curates The Family Acid Instagram page and runs the photo archives. She is currently working on The Family Acid's next book, about the Vietnam War, featuring Tim Page, Sean Flynn, Thom and John Steinbeck IV, The Coconut Monk and many others.
Devon Steffens is a musician and artist. His latest album as Psychic Health was released in December 2015 on Time No Place Records.
Mary Steffens is the heart of The Family Acid, providing stories, memories and inspiration.
